List of Women-Directed Films in 2019
by The Representation Project, originally published here. This year at the Golden Globes, zero women were nominated for Best Director. And it’s not just on stage. Of the 1,200 top-grossing films from 2007 to 2018, only 4.3% were directed by women, according to a new study released by the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. And the statistics are even worse for women of color. Only five black women, three Asian women, and one Latina directed a film over the last 12 years.Until we have equality behind and in front of the camera, we will not have real cultural change. That’s why we’re encouraging you to take action and use your wallet to make your voice heard. This week, please take a friend and go see (or buy) a film that is directed by a woman. Check out our list of women-directed movies and share the film you’re seeing this week! Here is a list of women directed films to watch now and this upcoming year. Mark your calendars everyone!
