Alliance for Girls Launches a Groundbreaking #GirlsPolicyAgenda

Contra Costa Town Hall

August 28th, 2019— Contra Costa, CA

Alliance for Girls launched its recent advocacy initiative to build collective power for girls and bring systematic change for gender justice across the state of California through a #GirlsPolicyAgenda.

Alliance for Girls is partnering with girl-serving organizations and champions to host interactive town halls in Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Alameda and San Francisco counties. The goal is to hear directly from community members and mobilize a base of powerful leaders as they shape the #GirlsPolicyAgenda. Join us on September 5th in Contra Costa for our next Town Hall event.

Girls Inc. of West Contra Costa is excited to partner with Alliance For Girls to pursue gender equity for all people, and this equity begins by elevating the most impacted, girls. It is important to address gender equity as a human rights issue and not just a feminist issue. At Girls Inc. of West Contra Costa County, The Bay Area’s Future Is Female, and together we can all make a difference in making that future equitable and sustainable for everyone!” - Cristal Banagab, Associate Director, Girls Inc of West Contra Costa

This initiative builds on our recent report Together, We Rise: The Lived Experiences of Girls in Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose, a girl-led report released by Alliance for Girls on August 19th, 2019. . The groundbreaking #GirlsPolicyAgenda is part of a larger collective effort to mobilize communities across California that will change the future for girls.

About Alliance for Girls

Since 2012, Alliance for Girls (AFG) has transformed a siloed girls’ service sector into an alliance with the necessary collective power to change the world. AFG is the nation’s largest alliance of girl-serving organizations, including over 100 nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and schools serving more than 300,000 girls and gender-expansive youth in the San Francisco Bay Area. AFG members employ over 2,400 people, have over 6,000 dedicated volunteers, and collect over $200 million economic revenue annually. Alliance for Girls mobilizes girls’ advocates and educators to address barriers facing girls, create conditions for their success, and advance systemic change to achieve equity. We believe that those closest to the problem are closest to the solution.
