An Exciting Update from Alliance for Girls
Dear AFG Community,
A few weeks ago, we bid a bittersweet farewell to our Co-Founder and Founding Executive Director, Emma Mayerson after 11 years at the helm of Alliance for Girls* (AFG). In May, AFG’s Board designed and underwent a thorough process to select AFG’s next leadership. And while we are not yet announcing who was selected, we do have an update to share with our AFG community about a key decision.
After much consideration and staff and board discussions, AFG will move into a Co-Executive Director model. In the coming weeks, we will announce our new Co-Executive Directors – two people who will lead AFG together.
This is AFG striving for more democratic decision-making and walking the talk – leaning deeply into one of our core values – that diverse leadership is more effective leadership. A Co-Executive Director model gives AFG an opportunity to intentionally explore creating sustainable leadership within the organization, while also disrupting dominant cultural norms of leadership and power. We know that we are stronger together which is why we’re excited to embrace this new collaborative approach.
While change for any organization or team can feel both exciting and a little unsettling, the AFG Board and staff have full confidence that a Co-Executive Director model is the right next step for AFG. We have exciting plans on the horizon and it’s because of members and supporters like you that we continue to make leaps and bounds in our fight for equity.
Be on the lookout, we will announce our two Co-Executive Directors very soon and appreciate your patience as we move forward with this next new chapter for Alliance for Girls.
Warmly,
The AFG Team
