Dear AFG Community,

2022 marks a very special milestone in our history—it's our 10th anniversary! We pay tribute to the commitment and dedication of all members and partners of our AFG family, both past and present, who have made our organization what it is today: a leader in how to authentically center girls—their voices and their ideas—in the fight for gender equity. This is an exciting time and we have a number of initiatives and events planned, so stay tuned.

As we kick off the year, we give our heartfelt thanks to Mark Gunther (Founder, AFG & Managing Director, Eva Leah Gunther Foundation) for his incredible leadership as Founding Chair of the AFG Board of Directors. Mark is retiring as Chair, but will complete his term on the Board and serve as Treasurer in 2022. Since 2009, Mark has guided AFG through complex times and moments of important transformation for our organization.

Stepping in as our new Board Chair(s) are Linda Calhoun (Founder & CEO, Career Girls) and Raquel Donoso (Senior Program Officer, Equity in Education, Yellow Chair Foundation).

About Linda Calhoun

Linda Calhoun is an entrepreneur, activist, and community leader based in San Francisco, California. Linda’s work has met the unique and increasingly important intersections of STEM and social justice. Linda is the Founder and CEO of Career Girls, a nonprofit that was created as a response to the inequality of opportunity that Linda encountered in her story.

About Raquel Donoso

Raquel Donoso is a nonprofit consultant and philanthropic advisor committed to increasing opportunities for children, youth, and their families. Her work is grounded in her lived experience as the daughter of immigrant parents and former single, teen mother. Raquel was the Director of the Mission Promise Neighborhood, a $30M U.S. Department of Education collective impact initiative to build a cradle-to-college-to-career pipeline for students in San Francisco’s Mission District. She is an Annie E. Casey Foundation Children and Family Fellow and advanced practitioner of Results Count Leadership and Facilitation.

Directors since 2018, their thought leadership on our Board and deep service as Chairs of the Governance and Finance Committees has helped set the stage for our future growth. We are thrilled to have them leading our Board as co-Chairs.

You, and the youth you serve, represent the hope and promise of a better world. We look forward to working with you in 2022!

In community,

Your AFG Team
