Building Imagined Communities: Virtual Members Meeting! Wednesday, May 29th | 11am-1pm

Last week Alliance for Girls* shared our new 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, which charts the course of our collective future to facilitate generative change with and for girls and gender-expansive youth of color and the organizations that serve them. By implementing this strategic plan, AFG aims to create an imagined community** where girls and gender-expansive youth, especially those of color, are valued, respected, and safe, through youth-led research, storytelling, community building, and collective advocacy.

The past four years have brought a lot of changes to organizations that support girls and gender-expansive youth. We're all dealing with a lot as we navigate these changes while still making sure we're meeting the needs of girls and gender-expansive youth, and their communities. It's really important for us to have places where we can connect with others who also understand how crucial it is to focus on girls and gender-expansive youth, especially those of color. These spaces, like our upcoming Members Meeting, will help build our collective power and make the world that we and our young people dream of a reality.

Join us on Wednesday, May 29th, 11am-1pm for our Virtual Members Meeting. This hallmark event is a time when AFG members, former members, girls and gender-expansive youth, and any service provider, community leader, parents/caregiver, and advocate in the girl-serving sector can virtually connect, celebrate each other, strategize, and learn from one another.

During our meeting, we’ll hear from Xochtil Larios (she/her), Youth Justice Coordinator at Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ). Xochtil is part of a four-year evaluation project for The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform’s (NICJR’s) Neighborhood Opportunity and Accountability Board (NOAB), which is reimagining the youth justice system in Oakland, California.

As a member of the youth participatory evaluation (YPE) team, Xochtil and her peers leverage their expertise and lived experiences to support research on NOAB’s restorative diversion program. Xochtil will share findings from the YPE project, what’s been valuable to her about this experience, and her vision for the world she wants to see.

As a community, we will:

  • Celebrate our individual and collective impact on girls, gender-expansive youth, and their communities;

  • Review and provide feedback on AFG’s strategic plan and key projects;

  • Connect with members, share opportunities and updates on your work, and support one another; and,

  • Meet the AFG team, including our new co-executive directors and staff.

We also want to treat you to lunch! For everyone who registers and attends the event AFG will send a $30 digital gift card.

Register yourself and your youth today!

Your participation and insights will be instrumental in shaping our collective vision. We hope to see you and your youth there!

In community,

Alliance for Girls
