Addressing Sexual Harassment on Public Transit through #NotOneMoreGirl on BART

Starting in 2019 with the Not One More Girl (NOMG) campaign on Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) we partnered with Betti Ono Foundation, Black Girls Brilliance, and the Unity Council, engaged 100 youth and successfully advocated to BART to put in place policies and procedures to address sexual harassment on their trains and stations. Some of the policies and producers already adopted include:

  • The updated BART rider code of conduct to include the prohibition of sexual harassment.

  • The collection of data on sexual harassment occurances through BARTs rider surveys.

  • An increase in resources and non-police options for BART staff and riders.

  • An increased awareness and training for BART staff on sexual harassment and how to intervene.

For more information about the NOMG campaign, please refer to the Bay Area Rapid Transit website.
